FAO – Outlook Study on the Russian Forest Sector

Following an invitation by UN FAO, ESM senior research scholar Prof. Anatoly Shvidenko co-authored an FAO Report on the Russian Forest Sector.

The Report presents an independent expert evaluation of the current state of the Russian forest sector and its prospects to 2030, including detailed background aspects of the sector, the state and tendencies of development of forest resources, management, institutional aspects, industry, policy, science, climate and environment change, certification, etc.

The study makes clear that the Russian forest sector needs the implementation of reforms related to the sector’s restructuring, improved governance, and transition to adaptive forest management. Findings and recommendations of the Report were endorsed by the Russian Forest Service and presented at the Moscow International Forum in September 2012.
