Long-term LULUCF

The overall objective of this work is to conduct a model-based, quantitative assessment of the economic, environmental and social impacts of an inclusion of the LULUCF sector in the EU greenhouse gas reduction commitment in the short, medium and long term (2020, 2030 and 2050).

Objective

The analysis will consider different available policy options. The analysis will also address impacts both at the EU and Member State level.

The sub-objectives of this study are threefold:

  • To make a consistent baseline projection for the net emissions from LULUCF at EU 27 and Member State level until 2020, 2030 and 2050 under business-as-usual (BAU) or any other reference conditions
  • To adapt and update, to the extent necessary, the proposed modelling tools in order to analyze the economic, social and environmental implications of up to 10 policy options to decrease emissions and increase removals related to LULUCF at EU 27 and Member State level
  • To assess the impact of selected alternative policy options (scenarios) for including LULUCF emissions and removals in the EU's greenhouse gas commitment and in doing so support the international climate negotiations.
