Staying at the dorm
A limited number of single rooms has also been reserved at a dormitory in Vienna's 11th district (OEAD Guesthouse Simmering).
The dormitory is located in Vienna's 11 district, 2 minutes from the metro line U3 and tram 71 which takes you to Vienna's city center in 10 minutes.
You would be staying in fully furnished, single rooms within a living community (2-4 other tenants, shared bathroom, and kitchen). A personal kitchen box (dishes, cutlery, and cookware), TV-port, telephone, free internet access and bedding (blanket, pillow, bed linen) will be provided. You will also have access to a fully equipped laundry.
The monthly rent for the single room is €450 (excl. telephone usage). The rent is payable at the beginning of each month at the Petty Cash office at IIASA.
ATTENTION: No need to contact the dorm to reserve your room - we will do that for you.
Directions to IIASA
How to get to IIASA from the airport
From the airport take either the Schnellbahn (S-bahn = commuter train – e.g. S-Bahn S7) or the CAT to the station Wien Hauptbahnhof. From there follow the bus signs to the street level to the number 200 bus (please view the timetable here) to Laxenburg. The trip takes 30 minutes.
You should get off in Laxenburg at the stop called Franz-Josefs-Platz. The bus stop is on the upper left hand corner of the Laxenburg map near the "Schloss Restaurant" (see bus symbol).
The main entrance of the IIASA Schloss is indicated on the center of the Laxenburg map and is approximately a 2-minute walk from the bus stop.
How to get to IIASA from the Vienna Central Station Hauptbahnhof
At "auptbahnhof walk to the bus terminal where you can then catch the bus number 200 to Laxenburg - where you have to get off at the Franz-Josephs-Platz stop. Please view the timetable here.
You can also take the tram number 6 to station Quellenplatz and then change to bus 200.
Taxi from the Airport or Vienna
A taxi from either the Airport or Vienna to Laxenburg will cost about €40 in both cases.
How to get to IIASA from the OEAD Guesthouse
The easiest and quickest way to get to IIASA is to take the bus 217 from the bus stop Simmering and get off at the Laxenburg Franz-Josephs-Platz stop (timetable).
Commuting by bike
Vienna and the surrounding area offer excellent cycling paths. You therefore maybe want to consider bringing your bike with you if it is your customary form of transportation.
For those of you interested in biking to IIASA, you can buy relatively cheap, used bikes on the following webpage www.willhaben.at (it is similar to Craigslist, and under Bundesland/Region you can choose between Vienna and Laxenburg surrounding area).
Besides there are many fleamarkets both in Vienna and Mödling where used bikes are sold for about 50-70 EUR.
