The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the leading international body for the assessment of climate change. It provides policymakers with a clear scientific view on the current state of knowledge of climate change and its potential environmental and socioeconomic impacts.

Pioneering IIASA research into climate change in the 1970s and 1980s played a key role in establishing the IPCC. Since then, numerous IIASA scientists have been authors and reviewers of IPCC assessment reports. Additionally, the institute’s researchers have contributed to a wide range of IPCC Special Reports and other publications.

The institute's interdisciplinary and international research approach ensures its scientists are well experienced to provide expertise in understanding large and complex challenges such as climate change that cross national and disciplinary boundaries.
