Effective sustainable landscape management depends on spatial data that is both high-quality and accessible. To address this need, the Epistem initiative launched Luma (Land Use Mapping for All), a participatory web-based mapping platform, at a national workshop in Jakarta on 20 May 2026.

A new report released by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), highlights the urgent need for integrated policies to address air pollution and climate change across Southeast Asia. IIASA researchers contributed as authors of the first chapter, laying the foundation for science-based policy action.

IIASA scientists show that preserving ecosystems and fostering socioeconomic development is not a trade-off. On the contrary, an integrated approach is beneficial to national policies. We share examples from India, Brazil, and Indonesia.
