What is the connection between dance and economics? Gloria Benedikt explained in a presentation to IIASA staff last week.
"Art and culture will be key in helping us overcome some of the most pressing global problems we face today. Only if we manage to leave self-interest behind and come together as one, will we be able to overcome imminent threats, such as global warming, and be able to peacefully share our planet amongst 7 billion people and more. The key quality we will need to posess, especially in the western world, is empathy. And it is not economics, not science but art and culture that cultivates this quality."
