UNESCO Forum on Global Citizenship Education

The ACC project is presenting new work on "Measurement of Global Citizenship Education" at this forum

Under the theme of “Global Citizenship Education: Preparing learners for the challenges of the 21st Century” the forum will provide a platform to share successes in implementing Global Citizenship Education (GCE), while also offering a base for the development of a network to provide long-term support for its implementation at the national and global levels.

Empowering young learners with the skills and competencies they need to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing and interconnected world will be the focus of the first international UNESCO Forum on GCE in support of the Global Education First Initiative (GEFI) launched in September 2012 by the UN Secretary-General.

IIASA's Age and Cohort Change (ACC) project will organize a session on "Measurement of Global Citizenship Education" with the purpose to bring stakeholders together to discuss the most valid approaches to operationalizing the concept of Global Citizenship Education (GCE). Taking the form of small working groups, in this session participants are expected to discuss a range of GCE indicators and begin to formulate a method to systematically measure levels of GCE throughout the world. Developing standard measures of GCE would effectively provide educators and policy-makers with the necessary tools to analyze the effects of past curricula/policies while providing a roadmap for future progress.
