IAGG Africa Region Conference

The AFRICA AGEING Conference will mark ten years since African governments adopted the UN Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA) and the African Union Policy Framework and Plan of Action on Ageing.

At this juncture, the historic conference will, for the first time, bring together research, civil society, policy and practice role players from across Africa and beyond to deliberate on challenges and opportunities of ageing in the continent.

With more than 30 sessions the conference provides a unique platform for knowledge transfer and cutting-edge debate on the realities of old age and older persons in Africa’s societies, and for building capacity and setting the agenda for addressing challenges and harnessing the opportunities of ageing in the region.

Wolfgang Lutz is one of the key speakers at the conference, giving a keynote speech in the first Plenary Panel 'Africa Ageing: Opportunities for Development? The Case for Health and Social Policy Action on Older Persons'.

The keynote is on ‘demographic and development contexts of ageing in Africa’.
