Under the title “Demographic Change in Europe – the Scientific Basis of Sustainable Policymaking” the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina is hosting the first Circular European Academies Conference in Halle, Germany.
Wolfgang Lutz, was invited to speak about the topic 'Investment in Human Capital: From Quantity to Quality'. Among the high level participants are Jörg Hinrich Hacker, President National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, Ursula M. Staudinger, Vice-president of the Leopoldina, and Sarah Harper from the Royal Society.
In March 2013 Wolfgang Lutz, leader of the World Population Program at IIASA was elected as a full member to Leopoldina. The academy serves as a forum to provide advice to policymakers within and outside of Germany.
