The correlation between aging, work and health

This year's annual conference organized by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Demographie is themed around the topics aging, work, and health. Contributions  focus on the link between work and health and how they impact aging populations. Influencing factors and possible starting points in the fields of public health and labor market will be identified and new demographic data sources and methods and their usefulness for a better understanding of aging, work and health will be discussed.

Two presentations will take place on 19 September at 4.20PM during session 1 on education, longer working lives and intergenerational transfers. 

Alexia Fürnkranz-Prskawetz will present research in collaboration with Bernhard Hammer; Does Education matter? National Transfer Accounts by Education".

Daniela Weber will give a presentation entitled "Identifying the potential for longer working lives: educational difference in economic activity and health among persons aged 50+", research that she conducted together with Elke Loichinger. Weber and Loichinger will also present a second paper on global trends in working life expectancy on 20 September at 4.10PM during the session on labor demography.

Weber is also an invited speaker in the Young talent prize session on 21 September at 9AM, where she will discuss an international perspective on aging and cognitive decline.

Since 2010, Weber has been working at POP, researching on international perspectives of aging and health of population over 50 years, and investigating determinants of cognitive as well as physical aging. Currently, Weber is part of the ERC funded Reassessing Ageing from a Population Perspective (Re-Ageing) project. Among other things, the Re-Ageing project ascertains the extent to which advanced societies are actually aging in multiple dimensions, including health, cognitive abilities, and longevity. She has recently received three awards for her dissertation entitled "An International Perspective on Aging and Cognitive Decline".

The conference will take place between 19-22 September 2017 at the University of Rostock, Germany.
