Technological Pathways to Low Carbon

The Institute of Development Studies (IDS), Tsinghua University, Indian Institute of Technologyu Delhi, and the German Developmen Institute (DIE), will be organizing the final conference from the international research project "Technological trajectories for low carbon development in China, Europe and India", 7-8 April, 2014, in Bonn Germany. TNT Program Director, Dr. Arnulf Grubler, will speak in the opening session and will introduce the central concepts underpinning the research project and conference.

The conference, which addresses potential development pathways to low carbon future specifically in Europe, China and India, will also focus on the impact of competition and collaboration between Europe and emerging economies in Asia.

On the basis of case studies on electromobility and wind turbine technologies, the project explored:

  1. to what extent different initial conditions lead to diverging technological pathways;
  2. how this affects global competition; and
  3. how international low carbon technology cooperation can navigate the trade-offs between national and global interests.
