ESM Models/Tools/Data

The ESM Program has developed a suite of models, tools and databases to aid us in our research efforts. A selection of these are displayed below:

BioGeoChemistry Management Model (BGC-MAN)

Assessing management impacts on the BioGeoChemistry of ecosystems More

GLOBIOM

A global model to assess competition for land use between agriculture, bioenergy, and forestry. More

BeWhere

A model that optimizes the allocation of renewable energy systems from the local, regional, national or European level. More

The Global Forest Model (G4M)

Comparing incomes from forestry and alternative land uses More

The Environmental Policy Integrated Model (EPIC)

A model assessing how land management affects the environment More

Geo-Wiki

The Geo-Wiki Project is comprised of a global network of volunteers who participate in earth observation driven citizen science More

Global Forest Database

Downloadable global forest map at a half-degree resolution More

Land Resources of Russia

Digital georeferenced databases on land resource issues in Russia More

Decentralized Water Pricing and Water Pollution Taxation Model in the Presence of Uncertainties, Incomplete and Asymmetric Information (WAP)

The decentralized water pricing methodology addresses main challenges of sharing a common resource – water - among the competing users in an efficient and fair way and a problem of preserving the water quality. More

Agricultural Production Planning and Allocation (APPA) Model

The APPA model is a geographically detailed stochastic and dynamic model for spatio-temporal planning of agricultural activities to meet food security goals under natural and anthropogenic risks, resource constraints, and social targets. The model illustrates that explicit treatment of risks and uncertainties in agricultural production planning may considerably alter strategies for achieving robust outcomes with regard to sustainable agricultural development. More

Integrated Emission Trading and Abatement (ETA) Model

ETA model is an integrated stochastic emissions trading and abatement model allowing to analyze the robustness of emissions reduction policies under asymmetric information about emission trading parties, uncertainties of emissions and other inherent anthropogenic and natural uncertainties.  More

Integrated Catastrophe Risk Management (CRIM) Model

The Integrated Catastrophe Risk Management model (CRIM) has been developed at IIASA aiming to assist in robust decision making for managing natural disasters risks e.g., earthquakes, hurricanes, floods More

Hybrid Land Cover of Russia

A system integration of ground and remote sensing data that parametrizes Russian territory at a 1km spatial resolution for forests and includes tree species, age, and biomass distribution. More

Russian Forests and Forestry Database

Comprehensive downloadable data and analysis on the Russian forestry sector More

FeliX Model

A system dynamics model of social, economic, and environmental earth systems and their interdependencies. More

FLAM

The wildfire climate impacts and adaptation model (FLAM) is used to reproduce historical and to project future burned areas, as well as to assess climate change impacts and adaptation options. More

TrEco

The IIASA/ESM based BGC-MAN model was calibrated and validated with TrEco data for the dominant ecosystems and land use forms of the Congo basin, including virgin forests, managed forests, forest fallows after shifting cultivation and savannahs. More

City Oases

Where are the best places for a romantic date? Where can you skate? Where is it cool on a hot summer's day? Find the perfect places to spend the day and share them with the City Oases App! More
