Disagreement Competition

The disagreement competition specially targeted those areas of greatest disagreement among the existing land cover products. Volunteers were ask to classify the pixels with the help of Google Earth and further validate the landcover.

About the Competition

Owing to the large amount of disagreement among global land cover products, the creation of a global hybrid land cover product is seen as a major step towards improvement. In that regard, the goal of this competition was to focus on the areas of greatest disagreement among the existing products.

On pixels where all three land cover products are classified differently, we asked volunteers to classify the pixels with the help of Google Earth. Futhermore, we asked the volunteers to subclassify each pixel into a maximum of three land cover classes. As most pixels contain multiple land cover types, this will provide further information.
