The Earth Statement social-media movement, "This is my #EarthStatement," was launched today by Earth League Chair Johan Rockström, calling for global support to demand ambitious, equitable and science-based climate action at COP21 in December. This call comes in critical timing exactly 30 days before the Climate Summit in Paris.
The Earth Statement identifies 8 essential elements of climate action that must be agreed upon in Paris to ensure safeguarding of the planet and human development. The campaign calls on citizens and leaders to voice their support, and virtually sign the campaign, through the simple actions of: Sign, selfie, share!
The authors of the Earth Statement, members of the Earth League, which includes IIASA Director General and CEO Professor Dr. Pavel Kabat and Deputy Director General Nebojsa Nakicenovic, are some the world’s leading climate scientists and economists. They call on world leaders to heed the latest scientific research, and the overwhelming support of leading figures from all walks of life, by agreeing to a powerful climate agreement this December in Paris. The Earth Statement has already gathered support from great global leaders and thinkers, from across many key sections of society, such as Al Gore, Russell Brand, and Desmond Tutu. They now call on your support to join this global movement for real climate action.
