IIASA leadership and Program Directors met with Dr. Shmuel Abramzon (Head of Research at the National Economic Council of Israel). Dr. Abramzon was accompanied by representatives of Tel Aviv University, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

Israel is a world leader in science and innovation with a recent report by the World Economic Forum concluding: “The country’s main strengths remain its world-class capacity for innovation (3rd), which rests on highly innovative businesses that benefit from the presence of the world’s best research institutions geared toward the needs of the business sector.” Such strength in innovation combined with IIASA’s expertise in systems analysis, offers substantial benefits for both Israel and IIASA.

In April 2016 IIASA Director General Professor Dr. Pavel Kabat and Special Advisor to the Director General Professor Chin-Min Lee visited Israel with representatives of IIASA Programs, to attend a number of meetings and events with senior members of Israel’s government and the country’s academic sector. This follow up visit to IIASA provided more detailed information about IIASA’s work. The delegation heard presentations from various IIASA programs, which were followed by individual meetings with IIASA researchers to discuss future collaborations.
