Congratulations to alumnus Janusz Kacprzyk

Prof. Kacprzyk was one of 14 recipients of an honorary doctorate from the Laapeenranta University of Technology in Finland for his work on sustainability, especially in water consumption and waste, decision-making, and big data in digitalisation.

Alumnus Janusz Kacprzyk was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Laapeenranta University of Technology (LUT) in Finland for his work on sustainability, especially in water consumption and waste, decision-making, and big data in digitalisation.

This relates to his work that started in the late 1970's at IIASA in the Integrated Regional Development Project led by the late Murat Albegov, and then in the late 1980's when Prof. Kacprzyk worked in the Large International Rivers Project led by Sergei A. Orlovski.

In regards to IIASA he has previously stated that, "one cannot neglect the great role of IIASA for the development of so many scholars and researchers in virtually all member countries. These people have been inspired by IIASA, grow professionally due to opportunities created by IIASA."

Prof. Kacprzyk is a world class expert in fuzzy sets and soft computing. He holds a number of international scientific positions and is an active visiting professor in many countries. The work Professor Kacprzyk developed at IIASA has lead to five book publications and more than 350 paper publications.
