IIASA Alumnus Advanced Systems Analysis
Andreas Nascimento, Professor and Head of the Department of Engineering and Technology at theFederal University of Espirito Santo (UFES), Brazil, began his affiliation with IIASA as a Postdoctoral Researcher in November 2018. Enrolled through the CAPES/IIASA Postdoctoral Program, he is supporting the stochastic optimization team within the Advanced System Analysis (ASA) program.
Professor Nascimento graduated from the Federal University of Itajuba (UNIFEI), Brazil (Eng. in Computer Engineering, 2008) and from the Montanuniversität Leoben - MUL (University of Leoben), Austria (Dipl.-Ing. in Petroleum Engineering, 2012). He also holds a master's degree in Energy Engineering from UNIFEI (2010), and a doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the State University of Sao Paulo (UNESP), Brazil (2016), which was developed in collaboration with the Department Petroleum Engineering from MUL. Previously, he worked at Schlumberger Oilfield Services in Angola (2011-2014) and as a researcher at the Brazilian National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) from 2014 to 2016.
Professor Nascimento’s research emphasis is on real-time drilling processes, automating and optimization, for which he has been working on the development of mathematical models and computational tools in accordance with the dynamic activities related to the pre-salt Oil and Gas exploratory market overseas. His PhD thesis is entitled ''Mathematical Modelling for Drilling Optimization in Pre-salt Sections: A Focus on South Atlantic Ocean Operations''.
