OPT Options

This part describes the user options of RAINS-OPT.

New

This option opens a Problem Specification window named Problem Specification - NEW. This window allows you to design your own problem specifications. Some default settings are already entered in the Problem Specification window, but of course you can change them.

Toolbarbutton:

Open

The open option opens an already existing problem specification (ending *.cfg) and displays the specification with all data in a Session window. On selection a File Selection window appears. Here select the existing problem configuration file.

Toolbarbutton:

Save

Save does different things depending on the state of the Session window.

Global Settings:

In case the Global Settings window is in front of the current Session window, Save just save the current settings of the current problem specification (as displayed in the Session window).

Policy Targets:

In case the Policy Targets window is in front, the Save option saves the current setting of policy targets. In this case a Save File window occurs. Here you are asked to enter a filename, where the policy targets are stored. The file has to have the ending *.plc. By default, the Save File panel displays the name of the policy target file as it was given in the problem specification. If you enter here a different name, the name of the policy target file in 'Global Settings' will automatically be changed by OPT.
The BROWSE button of the Save File panel opens a File Selection panel where you can also select existing filenames.

SAVE saves the settings in the given file, while CANCEL aborts this action.

Else:

If another window than one of these two is in front of the current Session window, the Save option has no effect.

Menupath:

File / Save

Toolbarbutton:

Edit

Similar to New, Edit opens a Problem Specification window. But here the settings from the current Session window are copied into it.

Menupath:

File / Edit

Close

Close closes the current Session window. You perform the same action when you use the system menu of the Session window or click on the X-button on top right of it (Windows95).

Menupath:

File / Close

Properties

Properties displays all settings, as they are stored in the current configuration file (*.cfg). The outline of this window is exactly the same as the outline of the Problem Specification window. The difference to it is, that you can't edit the settings in this window, but only view them.

Print

The Print option let you print data and results to files and real printers. According to the current sub-window of the Session window, you print either the policy constraints, the deposition constraints, the emission results or the deposition results.

After selection of this option a Print panel appears.
On top left of this window is 'Format for printing' combo box; here you can choose either text or export format for the output.
At the 'Output device' prompt you can select either 'Save into file' to save the data in under the filename given below, or one of your printer devices (LPT1, ..).
Under the 'Output File' prompt you should enter the filename for the output file and under the 'Comments' prompt you can enter any comments which should be added to the output.

To print the data press PRINT, to abort the session press CANCEL.

Toolbarbutton:

Exit

This option terminates RAINS-OPT. On selection of Exit appears another panel, which asks you if you are sure to terminate OPT. If you here confirm with OK, OPT will be really terminated, but if you press CANCEL, the exit process will be stopped and session goes on. The X-button on the right side of the title bar of OPT's main window (Windows95) invokes the same action.

Generate LPD file

This option simply generates a LP-DIT file as it is required for an optimization run, but it actually do not run the optimization.

On selection it opens an Optimization window which looks similar to the Optimization window which occurs on selection of the Run optimization option. The only difference is the GENERATE LPD FILE button. If you press it, the current problem specification is exported into a LP-DIT file and can be used as direct input into the HYB solver.

Generate MPS file

This option generates a MPS file which can be used as input into various optimization solvers.

On selection it opens a Optimization window which looks similar to the Optimization window which occurs on selection of the Run optimization option. The only difference is the GENERATE MPS FILE button. If you press it, the current problem specification is exported into a MPS file.

Menupath:

Optimization / Generate MPS File

Run optimization (from LPD)

This option performs an optimization run, by generating a LPD file and then running the HYB solver.

On selection an Optimization window occurs. Confirming with RUN SOLVER will start the optimization.

Run optimization (from MPS)

This option performs an optimization run, by generating a MPS file, converting it into a LPD file and then running the HYB solver.

On selection an Optimization window occurs. If you confirm with RUN SOLVER in this window, the optimization is being started.

Menupath:

Run optimization

This option actually performs the same action as the Run optimization (from LPD) option does. It is just a kind of 'default' run option.

On selection an Optimization window occurs. If you confirm with RUN SOLVER in this window, the optimization is being started.

Toolbarbutton:

Tile option

This option would rearrange all the open map windows in tile format, occupying the whole main window display area. However, this option is effective if more than one map windows are opened.

Cascade option

This option would rearrange all the open map windows in cascade format. However, this option is effective if more than one map windows are opened.
