Workshop

of the UN/ECE Task Force on Integrated Assessment Modelling on the

Potential and Costs for Controlling Primary Emissions of Fine Particulate Matter

November 23-24, 2000
organized by the
EMEP Center for Integrated Assessment Modeling
at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Laxenburg, Austria.

The aim of this workshop is to initiate a systematic and internationally harmonized assessment of the potential of and the costs for controlling primary emissions of fine particulate matter in Europe, so that the foreseen review processes of the Gothenburg Protocol and the EU legislation can rely on verified and internationally accepted information on this subject.

At this workshop IIASA introduced its draft methodology to estimate the potential and the costs for controlling primary emissions of fine particulate matter and presented draft implementations of emission control cost curves for all European countries. Thereby IIASA wants to initiate intensive discussions with national experts to improve the proposed methodology and the databases for the individual countries, so that at a later point in time consensus about emission control cost curves will be facilitated.
