Keynote speeches were given by IIASA Director General and CEO, Pavel Kabat, IIASA Council Member for Indonesia Prof. Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, and researchers from ESM. Also present at the opening workshop were the German and Norwegian Ambassadors, the governmental delegations of East Kalimantan and Jambi (Pilot Regions for TFI), representatives from Indonesian ministries, a representative of the Malaysian IIASA National Member Organization, and local and regional stakeholders.
As a follow-up activity, a capacity building and training workshop of Indonesian researchers took place at IIASA in fall 2014. Further major institutions such as the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) joined the initiative to provide further strong institutional capacities at all levels.
The TFI will be extended toward more countries and integrated with other planning tools in the tropical basins.
