Earth Observation Systems

The Ecosystems Services and Management (ESM) Earth Observation Systems (EOS) research group in 2013 introduced new ways for citizen scientists to contribute data to improve global land cover maps through development of its Geo-Wiki project.

A winning year for the EOS research group saw the award by the European Research Council of a highly competitive Consolidator Grant to its leader, Steffen Fritz, to extend research from the computer to field, and first prize for the new Growers’ Nation app presented to EOS researchers by the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) in its 2014 Appathon.
