Research projects for 2014

The Risk, Policy and Vulnerability Program (RPV) can build on a very strong external funding base, which is providing entry points to leading researchers and networks worldwide.

EU-funded projects include ENHANCE, IMPACT2C, BESTGRID, CHANGES, the Austrian-funded InsAdapt and COIN projects, the World Bank-funded project on risk in Cambodia, and cooperation with the UN on the Global Disaster Assessment Report 2015.

Three new projects will require attention and help to take the research agenda forward. As a key project the EU-funded ECONADPT (Economics of climate change adaptation in Europe) advances theory and application of adaptation economics in order to support key decisions following the publication of the EU’s 2013 Adaptation Strategy.

Closely linked to this project in terms of partners and scope, in the Austrian-funded PACINAS (Public Adaptation Costs: Implementing the National Adaptation Strategy) we will examine the costs of implementing the Austrian national climate adaptation strategy.

Another novel project will be ARISE (Adaptation and Decision Support via Risk Management Through Local Burning Embers), which examines risk management and climate adaptation strategies in Alpine regions.
