The results of IIASA's research are chiefly documented in peer-reviewed journals, commercially published books, and IIASA publications.

The Institute records all publications written by IIASA researchers since 1973 in its publications catalog. The catalog gives web visitors either:

  • Free access to the PDFs of the publications that IIASA holds the copyright; or
  • The link to the publication on the publisher’s web site.

Current Types of IIASA Publications

Books containing IIASA research are published in collaboration with major commercial publishers.

IIASA Working Papers communicate preliminary results and concepts for discussion. These used to be named IIASA Research Memoranda and IIASA Interim Reports.

IIASA Reprints reproduce articles about IIASA research that have been published in journals and books.

IIASA Research Reports disseminate IIASA research that has been peer-reviewed to a wide international audience.

Policy Briefs present IIASA research specifically for decision and policy-makers. These were previously called IIASA Executive Reports.

Other Past Types

The following publications are no longer produced by IIASA but are available online through the publications catalog:

IIASA Collaborative Papers were reports on IIASA meetings, proceedings of conferences, reviews of previous IIASA research, or collections of papers on a theme within the Institute's research program.

IIASA Professional Papers reported on work that was by IIASA staff but not directly related to the research program of the Institute.

IIASA Reports was a quarterly journal of articles, conference reports, and news about IIASA and its research.

IIASA Status Reports summarized the status and accomplishments of IIASA studies to sponsors.
