An LCOY is an event by YOUNGO, the official youth constituency at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It represents a national version of the Conference of Youth (COY), which takes place immediately before the Conference of Parties (COP), the annual UN-Climate Conference. This year, there will be around 19 LCOYs in the whole world.
LCOY Austria 2018 will take place from 16 to 18 November, mainly at TU Wien.
IIASA will be involved in LCOY Austria through Caroline Zimm (TNT) who will give a key note on climate change in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals and through a workshop with Reinhard Mechler and Thomas Schinko (RISK), organized by Climate Change Centre Austria (CCCA):
Brace yourself, climate change is here
„How much warmer can it be? 1.5°C or 2°C, or warmer? Does half a grade make much of a difference? And what does that have to do with your future? In this workshop, you will gain insights into the latest Special Report of the IPCC on limiting global warming to 1.5°C (provided by a co-author of the report) in an easy-to-understand way. You will also learn more from leading climate scientists about what is at stake and what decisions are necessary to achieve the ambitious climate goals. After the factual update, we will set out in search of signposts to main and secondary sites of the "great transformation" and discuss how we can actively shape this process in the coming years.
