Elke Loichinger initially joined the World Population (POP) Program as a Research Assistant in October 2009, and is currently a Research Scholar. She was awarded a Doctorate from the University of Economics and Business (WU) in 2012, for her thesis on questions related to labor potential and human capital in aging societies in Europe. In 2013, she spent six months as a visiting scholar at the College of Population Studies at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, and joined the faculty there as a lecturer in 2015.
Dr. Loichinger has a diploma in economic geography from the University of Regensburg, Germany (2004) and a Master of Public Policy from Duke University (2007). Before joining IIASA, she was a PhD student at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock, Germany
