Book Launch: Thinking of the Future - Will our Children be better off?

Wolfgang Lutz and Franz Fischler are presenting and discussing their new book "Zukunft Denken" at this public event.

To the present parents aimed at a higher living standard for their children than they had themselves. The new book "Zunkunft Denken" (which translates into thinking of the future) discusses the question if this is still true today and in the future.

In a discussion with Peter Pelinka from the Austrian magazine NEWS, the book authors European Forum Alpbach president Franz Fischler and IIASA's World Population Program Director Wolfgang Lutz will present the key messages of their book for the first time and will try to picture possible scenarios for the future.

The event is centered around the main questions:

  • Can economic prosperity and living standard increase even further?
  • Who will pay for post-employment benefits in Austria if the birth rate keeps declining?
  • How can the Austrian health care system be financed on a long-term basis?
  • How will employment conditions develop in the light of increasing competition from emerging countries?
  • Will climate change lead to more disasters and the global population boom result in more wars?
