Working Group II of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has recently launched the full version of its contribution to the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) entitled Climate Change 2014: Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability.

The report represents the most comprehensive assessment of widespread impacts and risks of climate change and the opportunities for response. It addresses both the impacts of climate changes that have already occurred and risks of future impacts. Moreover, it integrates information about the full range of possible climate outcomes, as well as the role of vulnerability in humans and ecosystems.

IIASA research on climate impacts, adaptation, and mitigation is an important input to the IPCC reports. In addition to peer-reviewed research cited in the IPCC reports, 19 IIASA researchers served as authors and editors of the reports, from the IPCC’s Working Group II and III.

IIASA experts involved in the Working Group II report: Impacts, adaptation, and vulnerability

  • Reinhard Mechler: Lead Author, Technical Summary, Ch. 17 – Economics of Adaptation
  • Pavel Kabat: Review Editor,  Ch. 3 - Freshwater Resources
  • Anthony Patt: Review Editor, Ch. 14 – Adaptation Needs and Options
