Matthias Wildemeersch is a Research Scholar with the Advanced Systems Analysis program (ASA) and the Ecosystems Services and Management program (ESM), having first joined the institute through the IIASA postdoctoral program in 2014.
His scientific interests lie in the broad field of decision making, applying tools from network science, mathematical economics, control, and stochastic optimization. His research aims to provide decision support for problems in multiple fields, extending across welfare economics, landscape ecology, environmental economics, and risk management. His work has many practical implications for policy design in real-life networks on the intersection of economic and behavioral sciences.
Dr. Wildemeersch received his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Twente, the Netherlands, in 2013. Previously, he obtained his MSc degree in electro-mechanical engineering from the University of Ghent, Belgium. Dr. Wildemeersch gained professional experience at the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) in Singapore, and the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD).
