ESM’s research is divided into six broad research groups:

Agro-Environmental Systems (AES) Group

The AES research group seeks to improve our bio-geophysical understanding of the functioning of Agri-Environmental Systems. More

Earth Observation Systems (EOS)

Devising new approaches to apply earth observation to the many challenges facing humanity with an emphasis on citizen science More

Environmental Resources and Development (ERD)

The Environmental Resources and Development group conducts integrated assessments of the bioeconomy (agriculture, forestry, and bioenergy), to determine approaches for protecting the environment and ensuring sustainable development. More

Forest Ecosystem Management (FEM)

The forest ecosystem management (FEM) research group focuses on the multiple uses and benefits of forest ecosystems, as well as the interrelationships between the forest, agricultural, and energy sectors.   More

Methods for Economic Decision-Making under Uncertainty (MEDU)

The Methods for Economic Decision making under Uncertainty (MEDU) group aims to develop and improve a wide spectrum of modeling methodologies, with an emphasis on economic incentives and mechanisms for mitigation and adaptation, including market solutions for implementing REDD-based measures and a special focus on decision making under uncertainty. More

Policy and Science Interface (PSI)

The Ecosystems Services and Management (ESM) Program’s Policy and Science Interface (PSI) group aims to strengthen various aspects of the role played by the ESM research program in the climate and land use change-relevant community. More
