Nikolay Khabarov joined IIASA's Ecosystems Services and Management (ESM) Program (formerly Forestry Program) as a Research Scholar in January 2007 where he was involved in the GEO-BENE project. His main research interests are mathematical modeling and optimization with various applications (disasters, agriculture, and energy). Dr. Khabarov is also working on methods estimating the value of information, application of new risk management approaches, and assessment of adaptation options and potentials in the context of climate change.
Dr. Khabarov studied applied mathematics at the Moscow State University and received his Master of Science degree in 1998. He received his PhD in mathematics in 2004 from the same institution. In his PhD thesis, Dr. Khabarov developed new methods of solving optimal control problems that provide both global and fast convergence.
