The IIASA ASA Program has launched a methodological project named “Dream Valley” (DV). The DV simulation model consists of a society of artificial agents – individuals, firms, farms, and governmental decision-makers interacting in a cyber-environment. Firms and farms hire and fire individuals and their actions contribute to economic output, government coffers, as well as environmental degradation. The rates of these features are controllable by the actions of the government.
At the workshop, participants constructed scenarios for government decision-making and predicted outcomes within the artificial DV environment. An expert panel assessed the validity of the models simulations in context of realistic system expectations.
14.00-14.20: Introduction, DV project’s goals; State of the art of agent based modeling;
14.20-14.50: Overview of the DV environment and agent stereotypes (e.g., Cultural Theory)
14.50-15.30: Scenario Development 1: validating the model for different government types
15.30-15.45: COFFEE BREAK
15.45-16.00: Assessment of first round and discussion of collapse recognition
16.00-16.15: Scenario Development 2: looking for extremes
16.15-16.45: Summary and Conclusions
