ASA 2013 News

26-27 March 

Academician Sergey Glazyev, the Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, visited IIASA. For his visit, ASA organized several discussions with IIASA scientists on possible IIASA contributions to the policy-oriented research on the prospects of Eurasian integration. Alexey Gvishiani (Russian NMO), Arkady Kryazhimskiy and Elena Rovenskaya participated in the discussions.


15 March

The first seminar in the seminar series on Integration and Systems Analysis was held at the Institute for Scientific Information in Social Sciences, RAS, in Moscow. Alexander Tarasyev presented an integrated proportional economic growth model for Russia and Ukraine. The seminar series will support the RAS's research program on Prospects of Socio-economic Development of Russia and Ukraine in the European Context http://ukros.ru/, coordinated by ASA/IIASA.


11-12 March

ASA hosted the workshop “Systems Tools and Regional Development”, where the intermediate results of the project were dedicated to the development and analysis of policy actions responding to external economic and social shocks and stresses at a regional level. Leena Ilmola, Elena Rovenskaya, Viktoria Veshchinskaya and Nikita Strelkovskiy presented the methodology and assumptions, shock and stress scenarios under study and the two developed computer-based tools implementing models of regional socio-economic mid- and long-term development. Representatives of focal Finnish regions, Joensuu and Oulu, as well as the Ministry of Employment and Economy attended and gave their comments. Finnish partners positively evaluated the intermediate results in terms of their applicability for the real decision-making and suggested to include several region-specific aspects in the models.


4-5 March 

Elena Rovenskaya was invited to participate in the Arts/Science/Technology-Innovation workshop aimed at bringing artists together with scientists and technologists hosted by the Science and Innovation Office of the British Embassy in Warsaw (http://asti.eventbrite.co.uk/). She took part in discussions on artistic and technological ways to bring scientific results to a wider community.  


6-9 February 

Arkady Kryazhimskiy was invited to Tokyo, Japan by Prof. Hiraoki Matsukawa of Keio University, where he participated in the Workshop on Administration Engineering (6-9 February). 

He gave two invited lectures - one on Modeling controllable economic growth.  Proportional growth and another on Modeling controllable economic growth.  Reasoning behind infinite-horizon maximum principle.


12-24 January  

Elena Rovenskaya went to the University of the Free State, South Africa as an IIASA collaborator to take part in the new South African YSSP Program (SA-YSSP) which took place from December 2012 to February 2013.
