International Council for Science (ICSU)

ICSU is a non-governmental organization with a global membership of national scientific bodies and International Scientific Unions. Its mission is to strengthen international science for the benefit of society.

IIASA is an Associate Member of ICSU and has collaborated with ICSU in a wide range of areas since the 1970s. Collaborations include one of the earliest international assessments of climate change in the 1970s, various international programs sponsored by ICSU including the International  Geosphere-Biosphere Programme, the International Human Dimension Programme on Global Environmental Change, and DIVERSITAS, an international programme on biodiversity science.

Today, IIASA is closely involved with ICSU's Future Earth program, ICSU's central international partnership. The Institute is also involved in the  Global Carbon Project (GCP). IIASA Deputy Director Nebojsa Nakicenovic serves on the ICSU Committee on Scientific Planning and Review (CSPR).
