Directions to and from the Liesing Dormitory

Click here to view the dormitory website.

How to find the dormitory:

Arrival by plane

There are two options:

Cheaper:
1) Take the S-Bahn (commuter train) to “Hauptbahnhof” and then the underground train to "Liesing". Price is 3.90 EUR. The ÖBB ticket counter can be found in the arrivals hall and the ticket machines are located in the arrivals hall, the passages to the platforms and on the platforms.

Faster:
2) City Airport Train (CAT) to the station "Landstrasse Wien-Mitte". Then take the S-Bahn to “Liesing”. When using the CAT, costs will be 11 EUR (CAT) plus 2.20 EUR  (single journey zone 100).

Once you have arrived in Liesing: Keep to the left side of the square (bus-terminal) – cross "Perchtoldsdorfer Strasse" to the "Bezirksamt" and walk down "Haeckelstrasse" – turn left into "Josef Kutscha-Gasse" (first street on the left-hand side), and the second on the right is "Elisenstrasse" – the hostel is on the corner of Josef Kutscha-Gasse and Elisenstrasse.

Arrival by train

From "Westbahnhof" take the U6 underground train (direction "Siebenhirten") to "Bahnhof Meidling" where you change to take the S-Bahn to "Liesing" and from there walk to the dormitory.

or

From "Hauptbahnhof" or "Bahnhof Meidling" take the S-Bahn to “Liesing” and from there walk to the dormitory.

In each case the ticket will cost EUR 2.20. You can buy the ticket at the vending machine at the underground or train station.

How to get to IIASA from the dormitory:

Take the S-Bahn to Mödling (3rd stop), where you change to take the bus no. 200 to Laxenburg. The bus stop is in front of the train station in Mödling. The whole journey will take about 35 to 45 Minutes.

In Laxenburg you have to get off at the stop "Franz Joseph Platz".  Walk back towards the main square (Schlossplatz). The main entrance to the Institute is just opposite the church.

Coming by bike
Vienna and the surrounding area offer excellent cycling paths. You therefore maybe want to consider bringing your bike with you if it is your customary form of transportation. Many airlines let you take it as checked baggage at no charge — check this out. Reckon on about a 1 hour ride from the hostel to IIASA.
