Each year from June to August, IIASA becomes a bustling center of intellectual growth, as young scientists from around the world join the institute for the three-month Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP).

This year’s 52 participants were selected from a pool of 340 applications. They hail from 28 countries and represent the top young scientific talent in their fields. At IIASA, the young scientists will work closely with IIASA scientists on independent research projects.

The YSSP is one of the most successful programs at IIASA, and this year it celebrates its 40th anniversary.  Since 1977, the annual program has offered research opportunities to talented young researchers whose interests correspond with IIASA’s ongoing research on issues of global environmental, economic and social change. Many alumni of the program have gone on to highly successful careers in academia, policy, and government.

This year IIASA will additionally host two science communication fellows, who will work closely with YSSP participants to help communicate their research to a broader audience.
