Kabat and Mabhongo were joined by Special Advisor to the Director/CEO Chin-Min Lee, and IIASA Secretary Margaret Goud Collins. The group discussed the new Southern African Young Scientists Summer Program (SA-YSSP), which runs from December to February at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa. This year marks the first time that IIASA’s flagship YSSP program has been replicated outside of Austria.

Kabat will travel to South Africa in the beginning of December for the opening of the SA-YSSP. During their meeting, Mabhongo and Kabat discussed the details of this trip, and made plans for proposed meetings with the South African Minister of Science and Technology and other key officials, as well as the National Research Foundation, the South African IIASA National Member Organization.
