03 October 2012 FH Krems, Krems Austria
The event included research institutes from around lower Austria, showcasing their research with schoolchildren teachers, and the general public. For more information on the event, see the Das Land Niederoesterreich Web site (in German).
IIASA scientists from the Ecosystems Services and Management program explained Geo-Wiki, a citizen science initiative that involves a global network of volunteers who are helping to improve the quality of global land cover maps. Researchers Franziska Albrecht and Matthias Kramer will show the Geo-Wiki Mobile app, as well as the new Geo-Wiki Facebook Landspotting game.
IIASA's table also featured an interactive display from the World Population Program, which was developed for the MS Wissenschaft, a science center on an old container ship that is currently traveling up and down the Danube River. The multimedia exhibit invites students to step inside a demographer’s computer, where they can explore how human behavior now can impact future generations.
