13 September 2012 - 15 October 2012
IIASA’s World Population Program and the Wittgenstein Centre for Demography and Global Human Capital (IIASA, VID/ÖAW, WU) are participating in the interactive science exhibition on sustainability for students aged 10 to 14 years.
The MS Wissenschaft, an old cargo ship now filled with interactive science exhibits, is visiting 36 cities in Germany and Austria between May and October 2012, under the theme, “Future Project Earth.” IIASA World Population Program leader Wolfgang Lutz and his team have created an interactive exhibit that invites students to step inside a demographer’s computer, where they can explore how human behavior now can impact future generations. Guided by a fictional researcher named “Sabine,” students choose different courses of demographic, economic, and environmental change to see how these factors will affect the numbers, distribution, and education of the world’s people between now and 2050.
The MS Wissenschaft is in Vienna from 13-17 September. After that it travels to Krems and Linz and then up the Danube River into Germany, stopping in a number of cities along the way. For a full schedule visit the Wissenschaftsfond Web site. For more information about exhibit, visit the MS Wissenschaft Web site.
