Director General of CIMMYT to visit IIASA

The Director General of The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) will visit IIASA on Friday 6 July 2018.

Martin Kropff will meet with IIASA Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Dr. Pavel Kabat, his visit follows an earlier visit by Kabat in February 2018 to the CIMMYT headquarters in Mexico.

Kropff will give a lecture to all IIASA staff and participants of the IIASA Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP), this will be followed by a question, answer and discussion session. Additionally, he will attend a workshop with researchers from the IIASA Ecosystems Services and Management Program where they will discuss ongoing and future potential research collaborations between IIASA and CIMMYT.

He will be accompanied by Bram Govaerts, Latin America Regional Representative and Mexico Country Representative at CIMMYT.


About Martin Kropff

Martin Kropff is Director General of the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT). He joined CIMMYT from Wageningen University and Research Center (Wageningen UR) in the Netherlands, where Kropff was rector magnificus and vice chairman of the executive board for almost 10 years during which student numbers doubled and the university reached a world ranking as the top university and research center for agricultural and food sciences.

From 1990 to 1995, Kropff was the systems agronomist at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in the Philippines where he led an international program with NARS and Universities in 9 Asian countries on systems research and simulation for rice production.

Since 1995, Kropff has served successive roles at Wageningen UR, including as director general of the Plant Sciences Group and on the executive board. From 2013 to 2015, he was a member of the board of directors of the CGIAR, the 15-member consortium of international agricultural researchers to which CIMMYT and IRRI belong.
