IIASA, Laxenburg

Third evaluation committee meeting

The IIASA external evaluation committee will meet again to review the institute’s accomplishments, focusing this time on the Risk, Policy and Vulnerability, Water, and Advanced Systems Analysis programs.

The evaluation committee was established as part of the IIASA 2011-2020 strategic plan, and reviews both current and recent research, as well as the research-to-policy interface, assuring National Member Organizations that the work done at IIASA is of high quality scientifically and appropriately policy-relevant.

Each research program is to be evaluated and its progress assessed. The 2013 review considered the Energy, Transitions to New Technologies, and Mitigation of Air Pollution and Greenhouse Gases programs. In 2014, the review continued with the evaluation of Ecosystem Services and Management, Evolution and Ecology, and World Population.

The evaluation committee is chaired by Ortwin Renn, a leading academic in risk governance, political participation and the technological and social change needed for sustainability. He will work with the other internationally renowned scientists on the committee to thoroughly examine each program's goals and achievements, as well as research plans and strategy for the next five years.
