Holling is a Canadian ecologist and Emeritus Eminent Scholar and Professor in Ecological Sciences at the University of Florida. He has been named an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2009. He was the Director of IIASA from 1981-1984. He writes, "With inevitably incomplete knowledge come surprises and mistakes. But the mistakes become possibilities for new learning, not routes to failure".
In the interview below, Holling discusses his memories of IIASA during his time as director, a time of great uncertainty for the Institute.
