Elfriede Congiu-Kranner
Dear Colleagues,
It is my sad duty to inform you of the tragic death of our colleague and friend Elfi Congiu on Friday, July 18, 2003.
It is hard to find the right words, indeed any words, on an occasion like this. Most of you have known Elfi much longer than I have, and you all have your special memories of her as a colleague and friend. Many of you have supported her in the most difficult time of her life, when her husband was terminally ill and died a few years ago. Elfi had suffered tremendously from that shock, but she had never let that interfere with her work, which she had carried on in a most professional and devoted manner. Elfi did not just do her job, she was always trying to find the right balance between the most comfortable travel for the staff and the most economical solution for the Institute. In the other part of her job, petty cash, she was a most reliable and trustworthy cashier who handled her responsibilities extremely well.
But above all, Joan and I, like many of you, have lost a friend.
