Holger Rogner is working in the Environmentally Compatible Energy Strategies Project as a Research Scholar.
Dr. Rogner received his master's degree (1975) in industrial engineering and his doctorate (1981) in economics from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany.
Dr. Rogner first joined IIASA in September 1975, working in the field of macroeconomic energy modeling. After 1984 he led the International Gas Study, a collaborative effort at IIASA aimed at exploring the technoeconomic feasibility of expanded use of gas and the development of an international gas market.
From 1985 to 1986, Dr. Rogner directed the Industrial Group at the Institute for Hydrogen Systems in Mississauga, Canada. He returned to IIASA in October 1986 when his work focused on the impact of technical change on natural gas futures.
% Dr. Rogner is currently Director of the System Analysis Group of the % Institute for Integrated Energy Systems (IESVic) at the % University of Victoria, Canada, where he also holds an % Associate Professor position with the Department of Mechanical % Engineering. Dr. Rogner's research interests lie in the development of an appropriate economic accounting framework for the inclusion of the external costs of energy; identification of early market niches for novel energy technologies; the role of changing energy service requirements and ecologically coherent energy supply systems; and systems analysis and mathematical modeling.
