IIASA Alumnus Exploratory and Special Projects
Dr. Barbora Padrtova is a Research Scholar affiliated with the Arctic Futures Initiative at IIASA and also Assistant Professor at the Department of International Relations and European Studies at the Faculty of Social Studies at Masaryk University in Brno, the Czech Republic. Previously she led a research group at the Institute of International Relations in Prague. The research group developed a comprehensive analysis of Arctic states’ policies tailored to the benefit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
Dr. Padrtova’s research fields include international relations, geopolitics, security studies with a focus on the Arctic region, US-Russia relations, and NATO-Russia relations. In her research she also focuses on the interplay between science and politics. She has published numerous peer-reviewed academic and policy papers. She is regularly invited to speak at international scientific conferences, seminars, and workshops. Dr. Padrtova has extensive teaching experience which includes a number of courses within the field of International Relations, International Security and Foreign Policy. In addition, she has successfully implemented or has been directly involved in several international projects funded by, for example, the Horizon 2020, the NATO's Science for Peace and Security Programme, or the International Visegrad Fund.
Dr. Padrtova is a member of several organizations and scientific networks. She is a Czech delegate to the Social & Human Working Group of the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC). She is also a member of the UArctic Thematic Network on Geopolitics and Security (University of the Arctic and Northern Research Forum), the Arctic-FROST Network (National Science Foundation), and the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS).
