Wei Liu joined IIASA’s Risk, Policy, and Vulnerability (RPV) Program in Oct. 2012 as an Institute Postdoctoral Research Scholar. His main research interest is integrated adaptive management of complex socio-ecological systems, with a geographical focus on China. His research topics at IIASA include spatiotemporal dynamics of ecosystem service trade-off and synergy, multi-scale disaster resilience in complex socio-ecological systems, and integrated assessment of conservation policies.
Dr. Liu received his bachelor's degree in biology from Peking University, China and his master's degree in ecology and evolutionary biology from Iowa State University, USA. He completed his PhD research on wildlife conservation and wildland management in Michigan State University, USA. He is also co-founder of the Human and Environment Linkage Programme (HELP), an NGO focusing on community-based conservation and poverty alleviation, based in China and USA.
