Chiho Kaito obtained her master's degree in 2010 from the Department of Information and Computer Sciences at Nara Women's University in Nara, Japan, where she studied models of individual-based host-parasite dynamics in continuous space. She started her PhD research at the Graduate University for Advanced Studies (Sokendai) in Hayama, Japan, in April 2010. Ms. Kaito is now participating in three collaborative projects between IIASA and Sokendai, on the evolution of cooperation through indirect reciprocity in a spatially explicit model, on the detection of banded patterns by using third spatial moments, and on the robustness of spiral formation in spatial ecological systems.
