GAINS - Greenhouse Gas and Air Pollution Interactions and Synergies

Model documentation

The GAINS model - in its present stage - quantifies for 43 regions in Europe the potentials and costs of reducing the six greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4, N2O, HFC, PCF and SF6).

Methodology, data sources and initial results of the GAINS model are described in the following documents:

  • Ger Klaassen, Christer Berglund, Fabian Wagner (2005) The GAINS Model for Greenhouse Gases - Version 1.0: Carbon Dioxide (CO2) - IIASA Interim Report IR-05-53

  • Lena Höglund-Isaksson and Reinhard Mechler (2005) The GAINS Model for Greenhouse Gases - Version 1.0 :
Methane (CH4) IIASA Interim Report IR-05-54

  • Wilfried Winiwarter (2005) The GAINS Model for Greenhouse Gases - Version 1.0: Nitrous Oxide (N2O) IIASA Interim Report IR-05-55

  • Antti Tohka (2005) The GAINS Model for Greenhouse Gases –Version 1.0: HFC, PFC and SF6. IIASA Interim Report IR-05-56

  • An interim report describing the state of work as of April 2004:
