Short biography:

Currently Regional Vice President for Conservation International, Mr. Rodriguez, completed a few months ago his mandate as Minister of Environment and Energy for the Republic of Costa Rica. Identifying, valuing and capturing payment for environmental services for standing forest within protected areas, is one of his achievements during his mandate. He has been active in the Protected Areas System in Costa Rica, where he held various political positions as Director of the National Parks Service and Vice Minister of Environment.  Previous to his mandate he was an sub-director to CATIE´s (Tropical Research and High Education Center) general director. 

He is a founder and Board member of many environmental NGOs in Costa Rica and abroad. Mr. Rodriguez is a lawyer by training having graduated from the University of Costa Rica. He also earned an LLM from the Southern Methodist University-SMU where he focused his research on environmental law and policy.
