Short biography: Helmut Reisen is Councellor at the OECD Development Centre in Paris, having worked previously in commercial banking, at the Kiel Institute for World Economics, the Confederation of German Industries and the German Ministry of Economics. Since July 2006 he co-ordinates the OECD Global Forum on Development, which for the years 2006-2009 will engage policymakers in a series of analytically and empirically informed debates and seminars. Dr. Reisen is currently working on various aspects of private and official development finance, on macroeconomic interdependence and on China's and India's economic impact on poor countries. He holds a PhD from Cologne University and is a Professor of international economics at the University of Basel. Dr. Reisen writes a regular economics column in Internationale Politik. He has written extensively in scholarly journals and in the financial press on debt problems, financial globalisation and pension economics, including two prize-winning essays in the Amex Bank Review competition. He is currently a member of the editorial board of International Finance, Deutsche Bank Research Notes and Internationale Politik.
