Short biography: Professor Hordijk is currently Director of the International Institute
for Applied Leen Hordijk received his Ph.D. in econometrics from Vrije University, Amsterdam. Beginning in 1984, he pioneered the development of methods for linking environmental science and economics for integrated assessments of air pollution problems in Europe. The models he and his colleagues developed, principally at IIASA in Austria, were widely used by policy negotiators of the Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution (LRTAP). His approaches are recognized as among the most effective ever developed for linking science and policy in international environmental affairs. In the Netherlands, he was engaged in a large project on integrated assessment for climate change (COOL).
